SR Auto Group, a Canadian tuning specialist, has revealed its latest project based on the BMW i3. The firm’s approach focuses on aesthetics, fitting the electric hatchback with a set of custom PUR LG04 wheels featuring a flat lip design.

The BMW i3, known for its lightweight carbon-fibre construction and distinctive styling, has attracted attention from tuners since its launch. While some aftermarket projects have gone as far as radical body kits, SR Auto Group’s take is subtler, centring on the new wheel set. The PUR LG04 wheels replace the standard factory rims, aiming to enhance the i3’s stance and visual appeal without altering its original bodywork or mechanicals.

Focus on wheels, not performance

SR Auto Group’s i3 retains its original 125 kW (170 hp) electric motor and 250 Nm of torque. For buyers who opted for BMW’s range extender, the two-cylinder 650cc petrol engine remains unchanged, providing an additional 34 hp to support the battery on longer journeys. There are no claims of performance or handling upgrades beyond the wheel swap.

The PUR LG04 wheels are the centrepiece, specified with a custom flat lip. While technical details such as wheel size and offset have not been published, the visual effect is clear: the i3’s upright, compact profile is complemented by the new rims, giving it a more assertive look without straying into aggressive or outlandish territory.

BMW i3’s appeal to tuners

The i3 has attracted a modest but notable following among tuners worldwide. Japanese firm Eve Ryn previously offered a more comprehensive body kit for the model, but SR Auto Group’s approach is restrained, focusing on a single visual upgrade. This reflects a trend among some owners to personalise the i3 with subtle changes rather than full conversions.

No pricing for the PUR LG04 wheels or the installation package has been announced. The upgrade is aimed at i3 owners seeking visual distinction rather than performance gains. For those interested in previous BMW tuning projects, Kelleners Sport’s work on the 3 Series F30 provides a contrast in both scale and intent.

SR Auto Group’s project shows that even an electric city car like the i3 can attract attention from the aftermarket, though the changes here are strictly cosmetic. The car’s original drivetrain and range remain as BMW intended.
