Aston Martin AM310 Revealed at Villa d’Este
Aston Martin unveiled the AM310 concept at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, previewing the next DBS with a 575bhp V12 and design cues from the One-77.
Aston Martin presented the AM310 concept at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, offering the first public look at what will replace the DBS. Displayed on the shores of Lake Como from 25 to 27 May, the AM310 adopts a working title to qualify for the event’s Concept category, but the car previews the next production flagship due later in the year.
The AM310’s bodywork makes clear references to the limited-run One-77, with a more aggressive front grille, sharper body lines and pronounced rear haunches. The concept’s carbon-fibre detailing and lightweight construction signal a focus on reducing mass, a lesson Aston Martin has taken from its top-tier supercar. The overall silhouette remains classically Aston Martin, but the details are more purposeful than before.
Under the bonnet sits an updated version of Aston Martin’s familiar 6.0-litre V12, now tuned to deliver 575bhp. While not matching the One-77’s 700bhp, the figure marks a step up from the outgoing DBS. The engine is expected to be paired with a revised automatic transmission, though technical specifics were not detailed at the show.
Design and engineering influences from One-77
Aston Martin’s decision to draw from the One-77 is evident in the AM310’s use of advanced materials. Carbon-fibre elements are visible in the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser. The interior, glimpsed through the windows, appears to feature a new centre console layout and higher-grade materials, although the show car’s cabin was not fully revealed.
Market timing and model positioning
Although Aston Martin will celebrate its centenary in 2013, the production version of the AM310 is due to reach customers before then. The expected price is around £190,000, positioning it above the outgoing DBS. By revealing the car in concept form at Villa d’Este, Aston Martin has been able to gauge public and collector reaction while keeping final details under wraps.
