Rimac Automobili presented the Concept One to the public at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, confirming the electric supercar’s move from prototype to production. The Croatian firm’s first model drew attention for its claimed 1,088bhp output and four-motor all-wheel drive system, as well as its £800,000 price tag.

The Concept One’s technical specification set it apart from most rivals at the event. Four independent electric motors, one at each wheel, provided torque vectoring and a combined 1,600Nm. Rimac quoted a 0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 190mph. The 92kWh lithium iron phosphate battery was said to deliver a range of more than 370 miles on the NEDC cycle, putting it ahead of most electric vehicles of its day.

Production was slated to begin in 2013 with a run of just eight units, each priced at around $1 million. Rimac partnered with Vredestein and Italdesign Giugiaro for bespoke tyres, drawn from the Ultrac Vorti line and tailored specifically for the Concept One’s performance demands.

The Concept One’s appearance at Villa d’Este placed it alongside other headline concepts and production models, including the Mini Superleggera Visionand Aston Martin AM310. The Rimac’s low, cab-forward stance and distinctive LED lighting made it one of the most photographed cars at the event.
