Audi RS3 Sedan confirmed for US market, hatchback and estate ruled out
Audi will offer the RS3 exclusively as a Sedan in the United States, with no plans for Sportback or other body styles, according to company representatives.
Audi has confirmed that the RS3 will be sold in the United States solely as a Sedan, shutting the door on Sportback or estate versions for American buyers. The company stated that no other RS3 body styles are planned for the US market, making the four-door the exclusive choice for performance-focused compact saloon buyers.
The RS3 Sedan is positioned to compete directly with the BMW M2 and Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG in the US, both of which target buyers seeking high-performance compact saloons. Audi’s decision leaves American customers without the option of the RS3 Sportback, which remains popular in Europe but will not be offered across the Atlantic.
Engine and performance details
Under the bonnet, the RS3 Sedan will use Audi’s 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine. The unit delivers 270 kW and 465 Nm of torque, driving all four wheels through the company’s quattro all-wheel drive system. A 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission is expected, mirroring the setup found in the RS3 Sportback sold in other markets.
For context, the RS3 Sportback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 250 km/h, with an optional increase to 280 km/h. While final US specifications have not been published, similar performance figures are anticipated for the Sedan.
No additional body styles planned
Audi’s confirmation echoes recent moves by other manufacturers to limit body style choices in specific markets. The decision means buyers seeking a practical performance hatchback, such as the RS3 Sportback, will need to look elsewhere or import privately. The RS3 Sedan’s main rivals in the US, the BMW M2 and Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, are both offered as compact saloons or coupes, not hatchbacks.
Audi has not indicated any plans to revisit this decision or expand the RS3 range in the US. The Sedan will serve as the sole RS3 offering for American customers for the foreseeable future.
