Facelifted Jeep Grand Cherokee Revealed Undisguised Ahead of Detroit Debut
Jeep’s refreshed Grand Cherokee, spied without camouflage in India, previews updated styling, new technology and powertrain tweaks for the 2014 model year.
Jeep’s facelifted Grand Cherokee has been caught undisguised in India just days ahead of its official unveiling at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The updated SUV reveals a reworked front end, new LED lighting and interior upgrades targeting the 2014 model year.
Styling and technology updates for 2014
The latest images show the Grand Cherokee’s refreshed front, featuring a slimmer grille, redesigned headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and a reshaped bumper. These changes give the SUV a sharper, more modern look while retaining its recognisable proportions. At the rear, subtle tweaks are expected, though the main focus remains on the front-end revision.
Inside, Jeep is introducing its UConnect touchscreen multimedia system, bringing the Grand Cherokee’s infotainment in line with rivals. The system is expected to offer improved navigation, smartphone integration and a more intuitive interface. Material quality and trim options are also likely to see an upgrade, although full details will be confirmed at launch.
Engine range and transmission changes
The facelifted Grand Cherokee will continue with the established engine line-up, including the 3.6-litre V6 petrol, the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 and the high-performance 6.4-litre HEMI V8 for the SRT model. Two V6 diesel options, with outputs between 190 and 250 horsepower, will also remain available for selected markets. Jeep is expected to improve these engines for better power delivery, fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions, but no radical changes are planned for the core hardware.
The eight-speed automatic transmission, already seen in other Chrysler Group models, will replace the outgoing five-speed unit. Paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel will be offered, providing more driver control, especially in the SRT performance variant.
Market positioning and launch timing
Jeep will formally present the facelifted Grand Cherokee on 14 January 2013 at the Detroit Auto Show. The update is aimed at keeping the model competitive against newer premium SUVs by improving technology, efficiency and perceived quality without altering its core identity. Pricing and full market specifications will be announced at the show.
For European buyers, the Grand Cherokee remains a key rival to premium offerings from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover.
