H&H has confirmed its return to Race Retro as the event’s official auction partner for 2009, resuming a relationship that dates back to the show’s founding years. The historic motorsport show, set for 13 to 15 March at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, is now in its sixth year and remains a fixture on the pre-season calendar for classic motorsport enthusiasts.
The auction house, known for achieving several world record prices at Race Retro, including £299,000 for the ex-Dick Protheroe Jaguar E-type Fixed Head Coupe in 2005, plans a broad entry list for 2009. H&H’s offering will span road and competition cars, motorcycles from multiple eras, and a wide range of automobilia, aiming to attract collectors beyond the core motorsport crowd.
Diverse auction line-up planned for 2009
Among the early consignments is a 1954 Arnolt Bristol Bolide, a car eligible for prestigious historic events such as the Mille Miglia Storica. The example offered is also believed to have competed in SCCA events in Oklahoma during the 1960s, adding to its appeal for collectors seeking provenance and eligibility. H&H expects further entries to include both road and competition vehicles, reflecting the broad interests of Race Retro’s audience.
The auction will open with a sale of automobilia, including motorsport-themed decorative items and a selection of cherished registration numbers. A particular highlight is the collection of race suits, gloves, jackets and memorabilia from the estate of the late David Leslie. Leslie, remembered for his success in single-seaters, sportscars and touring cars, was also influential in the careers of several British drivers and competed with manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Jaguar, Honda and Nissan.
