Lamborghini is planning to expand its range with a new SUV and a four-door sedan, both underpinned by next-generation Porsche platforms. The move follows Volkswagen Group’s decision to assign Porsche responsibility for developing the group’s sports car and luxury saloon architectures.
The new SUV, intended as a spiritual successor to the LM002, is expected to share its basic structure with the next Porsche Cayenne. Lamborghini’s first modern four-door sedan, previewed by the Estoque concept at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, is likely to use the future Panamera’s platform. This approach allows Lamborghini to leverage group resources while maintaining its own design and performance identity.
Why Lamborghini is expanding its range
Launching an SUV gives Lamborghini a presence in a segment where Ferrari has no direct rival, taking advantage of Porsche’s experience with the Cayenne.
