Lamborghini has presented a limited Gold Edition of its Gallardo LP560-4 at the Shenzhen Hong Kong Macau International Auto Show, targeting Chinese buyers with a metallic gold finish and exclusive interior details. The car was revealed as a showpiece for the brand’s growing presence in China, which has become an important market for luxury and performance manufacturers.

The Gallardo LP560-4 Gold Edition stands out with its gold metallic paintwork, matching engine cover and unique alloy wheels. Inside, Lamborghini has added red stitching to the seats and steering wheel, along with other minor touches to set the car apart from the standard version. The Gold Edition does not feature mechanical changes, retaining the regular LP560-4’s 5.2-litre V10 engine, which produces 552 horsepower at 8,000rpm and 540Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels through Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive system.

Lamborghini has priced the Gold Edition at 3 million yuan, equivalent to roughly $600,000 at the time of launch. That places it almost $200,000 above the standard Gallardo’s price in China, reflecting the exclusivity and bespoke finish of the model. The price premium is partly explained by the high taxes and import duties on luxury cars in China, as well as the market’s appetite for special editions and customisation.

Gallardo LP560-4: technical background

First introduced at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the Gallardo LP560-4 updated Lamborghini’s best-selling model with a new direct-injection V10, lighter chassis and improved efficiency. The 5.2-litre engine delivers 552hp and 540Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h time of around 3.7 seconds. Direct injection helped reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 18 percent compared to the previous Gallardo, despite the increase in power.

Focus on the Chinese luxury market

The launch of the Gold Edition reflects Lamborghini’s strategy to appeal to China’s growing number of high-end car buyers, who often seek exclusivity and customisation. Special editions such as this have become a common approach for luxury brands looking to stand out in a competitive market with high import costs and strong demand for personalisation.

The Gallardo LP560-4 Gold Edition is not expected to be offered outside China. Lamborghini continues to use limited runs of bespoke models to reinforce its brand image and respond to regional market trends. The Gold Edition joins a series of special Gallardo variants produced during the model’s run, each aimed at a different set of buyers or commemorating a particular occasion.
