Lexus to Unveil 2010 RX Range at Los Angeles Auto Show
Lexus will introduce the all-new 2010 RX 350 and RX 450h, alongside the IS convertible and updated LS 460 AWD, at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Lexus will stage the world premiere of its next-generation RX at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, introducing both the 2010 RX 350 and the RX 450h hybrid on 19 November. The company scheduled the unveiling for 1:20 p.m. PST at the Los Angeles Convention Center, marking a major update to its best-selling luxury SUV range.
The 2010 RX models bring new styling, updated technology and a continued focus on efficiency. The RX 350 is expected to feature a petrol V6 engine, while the RX 450h represents the latest evolution of Lexus’s hybrid system, aimed at improving both performance and fuel economy. Full technical specifications had not been released ahead of the debut, but Lexus confirmed that the new RX would build on the outgoing model’s reputation for comfort, safety and refinement.
Hybrid and petrol options for 2010 RX
Lexus’s decision to launch both the RX 350 and RX 450h together reflects the brand’s commitment to hybrid technology in its core SUV offering. The RX 450h will be positioned as the more efficient alternative, using a petrol-electric drivetrain to reduce emissions and running costs compared to conventional petrol models. The RX 350, meanwhile, continues with a V6 engine, targeting buyers who prefer traditional powertrains.
The RX has been a key model for Lexus in the US and Europe, consistently among the best-selling luxury SUVs since its introduction. The arrival of the 2010 models is intended to keep the RX competitive against rivals such as the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz M-Class, especially as hybrid options become more important in the segment.
Other Lexus debuts at Los Angeles
Alongside the RX, Lexus will present the 2010 IS 250C and IS 350C convertibles for their North American debut. Both feature a lightweight aluminium three-panel roof that retracts in seconds, and carry over the powertrains from the IS saloon range: a 2.5-litre V6 for the IS 250C and a 3.5-litre V6 for the IS 350C. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual or automatic, depending on the model.
The 2009 LS 460 and LS 460 L all-wheel drive saloons will also appear, equipped with a compact centre TORSEN limited-slip differential for improved traction and stability. Both standard and long-wheelbase versions will be shown, underlining Lexus’s focus on luxury and technology across its range.
Context for the RX debut
The Los Angeles Auto Show has become a key venue for North American product launches, with manufacturers using the event to highlight new models and technologies. Lexus’s choice to reveal the 2010 RX in Los Angeles signals the importance of the US market for its luxury SUV business.
