Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT Receives Facelift and Equipment Boost in Malaysia
The 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT for Malaysia gets a refreshed look, upgraded interior and added safety kit, with prices starting from RM125,467.80 before insurance.
Mitsubishi has launched an upgraded version of the Lancer 2.0 GT in Malaysia, introducing revised styling, additional equipment and a focus on premium materials. The refreshed model is now available from RM125,467.80 on the road, excluding insurance.
Exterior and Interior Upgrades
The facelift brings a modified front fascia with LED daytime running lights, a new rear bumper design and updated LED taillights. Mitsubishi has also added a reverse camera to improve convenience. Three exterior colours are offered: Red Metallic, Black Mica and White Solid.
Inside, the Lancer 2.0 GT now features premium Nappa leather seats and matching carpet mats, aiming to lift the perceived quality. The equipment list includes a 2DIN touchscreen entertainment system, cruise control, automatic lighting, and rain-sensing wipers as standard.
Safety and Mechanical Details
Safety equipment on the updated model covers ABS with EBD, brake assist, seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, dual front airbags and Mitsubishi's RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure. These features target the core requirements for buyers in the segment, though the total airbag count remains at two.
The 2.0-litre MIVEC engine, paired with a lightweight aluminium block, produces 150 bhp and is mated to a six-speed Step Sports Mode automatic transmission. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are standard, providing a more engaging drive for those who want manual control. The car remains a front-wheel-drive saloon, directly competing with models such as the Toyota Vios and Subaru WRX STI in the Malaysian market.
Position in the Market
With its new features and imported status, the facelifted Lancer 2.0 GT sits at the upper end of the non-premium saloon segment in Malaysia. The price positions it above mainstream rivals like the Toyota Vios, and well below high-performance models such as the Subaru WRX STI, which launched locally at RM249,000. Buyers in this bracket are likely to be weighing the Lancer's new equipment and Japanese build against the value and local support of rivals.

- Reverse camera and touchscreen infotainment
- 2.0-litre MIVEC engine, 150 bhp, six-speed auto with paddles

The Lancer 2.0 GT's update comes as Mitsubishi continues to refine its saloon offering for Asian markets, focusing on a blend of equipment and perceived quality. For buyers considering alternatives, the 2012 Toyota Vios and the Subaru WRX STI are also available in Malaysia, each targeting a different price point and performance level.
