Maldonado Secures 2015 Lotus Seat as Grosjean Faces Uncertain Future
Pastor Maldonado will remain at Lotus for the 2015 Formula One season, while Romain Grosjean admits his own future with the team is not yet decided.
Lotus has confirmed that Pastor Maldonado will continue with the team for the 2015 Formula One season, while the future of his teammate Romain Grosjean remains unresolved as the championship reaches its summer break.
Team owner Gerard Lopez stated that Maldonado, who joined Lotus from Williams for 2014 with backing from PDVSA, was always on a multi-year agreement. Lopez said the Venezuelan will be part of the Enstone squad next year, confirming half of the team’s 2015 driver line-up.
Maldonado’s season has so far been marked by a lack of points, in contrast to Grosjean, who has scored eight. Despite this, Lotus has opted to retain Maldonado, citing both his potential as a driver and his recognition of the team’s capabilities. The team continues to struggle for form after a difficult start to the hybrid era, but Lopez expressed confidence that Lotus and Maldonado can achieve results together.
Grosjean's options remain open
Romain Grosjean, who has spent several seasons at Enstone, is less certain of his position for 2015. Speaking in July, the French driver acknowledged that his future was undecided, adding that he wants to be in a position to fight for wins. Grosjean’s manager, Eric Boullier, now works at McLaren, and with Renault and Total expected to leave the Lotus sponsorship roster, Grosjean’s ties to the team are less secure than in previous years.
Grosjean’s situation echoes uncertainty elsewhere in the paddock, with other drivers also facing contract negotiations and shifting team dynamics. For Lotus, the combination of technical challenges, sponsorship changes and driver uncertainty means the team’s final line-up for 2015 remains unresolved. Sponsorship and technical backdrop
Lotus’s driver decisions come against a backdrop of changing technical partners and sponsors. With Renault and Total both expected to depart, the team faces a shift in its commercial and technical landscape.
