Mercedes C-Class facelift brings new engines and tech for 2011
Mercedes-Benz updates the C-Class for 2011 with revised styling, a more efficient V6, and a suite of new driver assistance systems, with UK deliveries from March.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the facelifted C-Class, with orders opening in January 2011 and first deliveries scheduled for March. The update brings a refreshed exterior, new engines, and a comprehensive set of safety and infotainment technologies aimed at keeping the C-Class competitive in the premium saloon segment.
Styling changes and interior updates
The 2011 C-Class receives a more assertive look, with a larger radiator grille, redesigned bumpers, and LED daytime running lights integrated into the front bumper. An aluminium bonnet replaces the previous steel panel, reducing weight and aligning the C-Class with the design direction seen elsewhere in the Mercedes range. At the rear, new LED tail lamps and a reshaped bumper complete the visual update.
Inside, the dashboard has been reworked with a new surface finish and an integrated central display. The instrument cluster now flows into the passenger side, and air vents are trimmed with galvanised highlights. Mercedes claims over 2,000 new components distinguish this C-Class from its predecessor, with particular focus on perceived quality and ergonomics.
Engines and efficiency improvements
The engine line-up sees notable changes. The C350 CDI BlueEfficiency introduces a new V6 diesel, which Mercedes says delivers 34bhp more than its predecessor while cutting fuel consumption by 31 percent. The petrol range continues with the C180 and C250, both updated for improved efficiency. All diesel variants, C200, C220, and C250 CDI, are now badged BlueEfficiency, reflecting lower emissions and better fuel economy.

A six-speed manual with ECO start/stop is standard, while the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic is offered as an option, promising smoother shifts and further gains in efficiency.
Safety and technology upgrades
Mercedes has expanded the C-Class’s safety and driver assistance offering. Ten new systems are available, including ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, and DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control. Some systems provide warnings, while others can actively intervene to prevent or mitigate accidents. These features draw on radar, camera, and sensor technologies previously reserved for larger Mercedes models.

The COMAND infotainment system now includes internet access, Google-based destination search, and the ability to download routes planned on a PC. Bluetooth audio streaming and USB connectivity are also integrated.
