Mercedes-Benz has released a new set of official photographs of the S63 AMG, offering the clearest look yet at the brand’s flagship performance saloon following its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The images highlight both the exterior and interior, with AMG-specific styling details and luxury features clearly visible.

Introduction: New Images of the S63 AMG

Engine and Performance

The S63 AMG is powered by Mercedes-AMG’s 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine, producing 430kW (585hp) and 900Nm of torque. This engine is the most powerful S-Class derivative to date, and is part of the BlueDIRECT engine family. It is paired with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive or the optional AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

Mercedes-Benz quotes a 0–100km/h time of 4.0 seconds for the standard wheelbase model, while the long wheelbase version completes the sprint in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

Lightweight Construction and Efficiency

Weight reduction is a key aspect of the new S63 AMG. Through the AMG Lightweight Performance strategy, the car is up to 100kg lighter than its predecessor. This has been achieved by using lightweight alloy wheels, a lithium-ion battery, a composite brake system, and aluminium body panels. The result is a power-to-weight ratio of 3.37kg/hp, which benefits both performance and efficiency.

Official fuel consumption figures are quoted at 10.1 to 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres on the NEDC combined cycle, reflecting the balance between performance and efficiency for a high-powered saloon.

AMG Styling and Interior Features

The new photographs showcase AMG-specific styling cues, including a more aggressive front bumper, larger air intakes, side sill panels, and quad exhaust outlets. The S63 AMG sits on AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, with the 4MATIC version distinguished by subtle badging.

Inside, the S63 AMG features sports seats trimmed in nappa leather, AMG badging, a unique instrument cluster, and a three-spoke steering wheel. The cabin maintains the luxury and advanced technology expected from the S-Class, with added emphasis on driving engagement and performance-focused details.

Position in the AMG Range

With the S63 AMG, Mercedes-AMG aims to blend S-Class comfort and technology with the highest level of performance available in a luxury saloon from the brand. The S63 AMG sits above the standard S-Class models and below the forthcoming S65 AMG, which will feature a V12 engine for even greater performance.

Market Launch and Availability

The S63 AMG is set for first deliveries to customers following its Frankfurt unveiling. The release of these new images builds anticipation among buyers and enthusiasts ahead of the car’s arrival in showrooms.
