Renault to Build Three New Models at Valladolid Plant
Renault has confirmed production of an electric car in 2011, a new ecological model in 2012 and a traditional car in 2013 at its Spanish facility.
Renault will manufacture three new models at its Valladolid plant in Spain, aiming to secure the facility's future with a mix of electric, ecological and conventional vehicles. The announcement was made by Jean-Pierre Laurent, Renault’s director in Spain, at a press conference on 6 October 2009.
The first of the three, an electric car, is scheduled for production in 2011. Renault has not yet detailed which model this will be, but it forms part of the company’s broader push into electric vehicles in Europe. The following year, Valladolid will add a new ecological model to its lines. While specifics remain undisclosed, Renault’s use of the term typically refers to cars with lower emissions and improved fuel economy. In 2013, the plant is set to introduce a more conventional model, further diversifying its output.
Securing jobs and plant future in Spain
The company has not released further technical or employment details. However, the phased introduction of new models signals Renault’s intention to keep Spanish manufacturing competitive as it adapts to changing emissions regulations and consumer preferences in Europe.
