SEAT to Preview Ateca Cupra Concept at Paris Motor Show
SEAT is preparing to unveil a high-performance Ateca Cupra concept at the Paris Motor Show, hinting at a 300 bhp all-wheel-drive SUV with aggressive styling.
SEAT will preview a performance-focused Ateca Cupra concept at the Paris Motor Show this autumn, according to reports. The Spanish brand is looking to add a hot version to its new SUV range, building on the momentum of its Cupra sub-brand.
The Ateca Cupra is expected to feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, closely related to the unit in the Leon Cupra, but uprated to deliver around 300 bhp. This would place the Cupra version at the top of the Ateca range and give it performance credentials to rival the Volkswagen Golf R, which shares much of its underlying hardware.
Performance and technical details
All-wheel drive is likely to be standard on the Ateca Cupra, with a torque figure in the region of 380 Nm anticipated. The combination of high output and four-wheel traction would make the Ateca Cupra one of the quickest mainstream SUVs in its segment, at least on paper. The engine is expected to be paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, although SEAT has not yet confirmed final technical details.
Styling changes will set the Cupra apart from the regular Ateca. Expect a more aggressive body kit, including deeper front and rear bumpers, pronounced side skirts and a lower ride height. These changes will likely reduce the car’s off-road capability but enhance its road presence and dynamic stance. The interior is also expected to feature Cupra branding and sports seats, although images have not yet been released.
Position in SEAT’s line-up
The Ateca Cupra will be SEAT’s first attempt at a high-performance SUV, following the success of the Leon Cupra hatchback and estate. The move mirrors similar strategies at other Volkswagen Group brands, with Skoda offering RS models and Volkswagen fielding the Golf R and Tiguan R-Line. SEAT is expected to use the Paris concept to gauge public response before committing to full production.
