Skoda Yeti Long Wheelbase Spotted Testing Ahead of China Launch
A stretched Skoda Yeti has been seen in China with a longer rear door and roof, previewing a model expected to offer more rear legroom and local assembly.
Skoda’s Yeti is set to gain a long wheelbase version for the Chinese market, with a camouflaged prototype recently photographed ahead of local assembly. The extended model, spied on test in China, features a visibly longer rear door and roof, indicating a clear focus on rear passenger space.
The prototype’s most obvious change is the lengthened rear door, which, together with the extended roofline, points to a wheelbase increase of around 60mm. This should translate into more legroom for rear passengers, a key selling point in China’s compact SUV segment. The roof itself appears to house a large panoramic sunroof, another feature designed to appeal to local buyers.
The long wheelbase Yeti is expected to be offered with Skoda’s familiar 1.4 TSI and 1.8 TSI petrol engines. Buyers are likely to have a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic, with two-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive available on higher-spec models.
