Nissan’s next-generation X-Trail has been spotted testing in hot conditions, with the prototype wrapped in heavy camouflage. The sighting comes as the current X-Trail, launched in 2007, approaches the end of its lifecycle, and Nissan prepares to introduce a new model expected to appear in 2014.
The test vehicle’s bodywork is almost entirely obscured by camouflage, making it difficult to confirm the final design. However, the proportions appear less boxy than the outgoing X-Trail, suggesting a move towards a more crossover-like silhouette. This aligns with speculation that the new model will draw heavily from the Hi-Cross Concept, which Nissan revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The Hi-Cross Concept featured a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, indicating that hybrid technology could be introduced to the X-Trail range for the first time.
