2017 Porsche Panamera Spotted Undisguised Ahead of Official Reveal
Porsche's second-generation Panamera has been seen in traffic with minimal disguise, revealing key design and technical details before its scheduled unveiling on 28 June 2016.
Porsche’s all-new Panamera has been seen driving undisguised on public roads, just days before the official launch set for 28 June 2016. The second-generation model, a key product for the Zuffenhausen marque, appeared with only light camouflage covering its badges, leaving much of its new design and technical features visible.
The sighting confirms several details about the upcoming Panamera. The car in question wore large 21-inch wheels, carbon ceramic brakes and quad tailpipes, suggesting it could be an S or Turbo variant. Porsche has already indicated the new Panamera will use a revised platform and share some engine technology with the latest 911 range.
Technical details emerge in public sighting
The new Panamera is expected to launch with a range of engines, including a single-turbo V6 for the entry model, a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 for the Panamera S, and a new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 for the Turbo, producing up to 550hp and 567lb ft of torque. Diesel options are also due, with a V6 diesel and a V8 diesel S variant likely to use the same 435hp unit as the Audi SQ7.
A second-generation PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox is set to debut in the new Panamera, now with eight speeds and claimed improvements in shift speed and efficiency. This transmission will be offered across the range, supporting both rear- and all-wheel drive layouts.
Design and market expectations
The undisguised prototype shows updated proportions, with a sleeker roofline and more cohesive rear styling compared to the outgoing model. Porsche’s decision to run the car in public ahead of launch suggests confidence in the new design and a desire to build anticipation among buyers.
