2017 Jeep Compass Spotted Undisguised During Brazil Photo Shoot
Jeep’s next-generation Compass, set to replace both the Compass and Patriot, has appeared without camouflage in Brazil ahead of its official debut.
Jeep’s new generation Compass has been caught on camera in Brazil, revealing its production-ready design ahead of the official unveiling expected later in September 2016. The undisguised SUV was photographed during a photo shoot in São Paulo, confirming several styling cues and the model’s name, which appears on the driver’s door.
The new Compass will serve as the global replacement for both the outgoing Compass and Patriot. Its design borrows heavily from the larger Grand Cherokee, with a more upright front end, a contrasting black roof, and a prominent chrome strip running beneath the side and rear glass. The vehicle photographed was in Limited trim, suggesting higher-specification features will be available from launch.
Platform and technical details
While Jeep has not officially released full technical specifications, the new Compass is expected to use FCA’s Small Wide platform, which also underpins the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. This platform supports both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, and the Compass is likely to share engines and transmissions with its platform-mates. Higher trim levels are expected to offer all-wheel drive as standard or optional.
Market positioning and launch plans
With its global reveal scheduled for Brazil, the 2017 Compass is positioned to compete in the compact SUV segment, replacing two models with a single, more refined offering. The model will be built in Brazil for both local and export markets, aligning with Jeep’s strategy to expand its international manufacturing footprint. The Compass is expected to reach other markets following its Brazilian debut.
