Subaru has launched the XV Crosstrek KLIMS13 edition in Malaysia, offering a limited run of 55 units at RM162,486 each. The model made its debut at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 (KLIMS13) and is locally assembled, marking a targeted approach for the Malaysian market.

Features exclusive to the KLIMS13 edition

The KLIMS13 edition adds a range of cosmetic and functional upgrades over the standard XV Crosstrek. On the outside, it receives a roof spoiler, sport mesh grille, cargo step panel, resin underguards on the front, rear and sides, LED daytime running lights, and side sill plates. These features are designed to distinguish the limited edition visually and give it a more rugged appearance.

Inside, the car is fitted with bespoke leather upholstery, matching custom carpet mats, and an STI-branded gear shift knob. The equipment list includes Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), parking sensors, cruise control, two front airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, and a two-DIN touchscreen AV system with USB, Aux, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity.

Powertrain and technical specification

Power comes from Subaru’s 2.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine, producing 150 PS at 6,200 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. This engine is paired with a Lineatronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Subaru’s signature all-wheel drive system, a combination familiar from the standard XV Crosstrek. The drivetrain is aimed at buyers looking for a balance of efficiency and all-weather capability.

Position in the Malaysian market

The KLIMS13 edition is priced above the standard XV Crosstrek, reflecting its limited availability and upgraded specification. With only 55 units available, Subaru is appealing to buyers seeking exclusivity and additional features beyond the regular model. The package competes with other compact crossovers and limited editions in Malaysia, such as the Mitsubishi ASX Euro Limited Edition and the Suzuki Grand Vitara facelift, both of which have also targeted buyers with special equipment and styling.

This release follows a pattern of manufacturers using motor shows to introduce special editions tailored to local tastes and market conditions. For buyers, the KLIMS13 edition offers a chance to own a more distinctive version of Subaru’s established crossover, with a blend of cosmetic upgrades and familiar mechanicals.
