TomTom GO LIVE 1000 launches with built-in real-time services

TomTom has introduced the GO LIVE 1000, its new flagship portable navigation device, featuring integrated live services and a redesigned user interface. The company said the device is the first in its range to be built from the ground up for real-time connectivity, targeting drivers across 33 European countries.
The GO LIVE 1000 debuts with a 500 MHz ARM 11 processor and a capacitive touchscreen, moving away from the resistive screens found on previous TomTom models. The device also introduces a Webkit-based interface, which the company claims allows for faster navigation through menus and easier integration of third-party applications. TomTom has focused on making the platform adaptable to local requirements, enabling the addition of region-specific services.
Integrated connectivity and services
A key feature of the GO LIVE 1000 is its always-on connectivity, provided through a partnership with Vodafone. Unlike earlier models that required separate SIM cards or manual activation, the new device comes with a year of live services included in the purchase price. This covers TomTom HD Traffic, mobile speed camera alerts, and local search in 16 countries, with live connectivity extending across 33 European markets. After the first year, continued access to these services will require a subscription, though pricing was not detailed at launch.
TomTom's HD Traffic system draws on real-time data to provide more accurate journey times and route suggestions, aiming to reduce delays for users. The live speed camera alerts and local search features are designed to give drivers up-to-date information without the need for manual updates or computer syncing.
Hardware and software upgrades
The move to a capacitive touchscreen brings the GO LIVE 1000 in line with the latest consumer electronics, offering improved responsiveness compared to older resistive displays.
