Toyota has officially unveiled the Mark X GRMN, a limited-edition performance saloon designed exclusively for the Japanese market. With production capped at just 100 units, this model serves as a final, enthusiast-focused send-off for the rear-wheel-drive Mark X range. The Mark X GRMN draws inspiration from the earlier GRMN Mark X Concept, incorporating a host of performance and styling upgrades to distinguish it from the standard Mark X.

Toyota Mark X GRMN: A Limited-Run Performance Saloon

Manual V6 Power and Rear-Wheel Drive

At the heart of the Mark X GRMN is a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 engine, delivering 321hp (236kW) and 380Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, a rare feature in modern saloons and a clear nod to driving enthusiasts who appreciate greater driver involvement. Power is sent to the rear wheels, maintaining the traditional layout favoured by those seeking a more engaging driving experience. The car is equipped with a Torsen limited-slip differential, which enhances traction during spirited driving, and a bespoke sports-tuned suspension setup for improved handling. Additional chassis reinforcements further contribute to the car’s dynamic capabilities, while a high-performance braking system ensures reliable stopping power even under demanding conditions.

Exterior Upgrades and Weight Reduction

The Mark X GRMN stands out visually thanks to a range of exterior enhancements. These include a redesigned front bumper, black door mirrors, a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof, a trunk-mounted spoiler, and 19-inch alloy wheels. These changes are not only aimed at providing a more aggressive and sporting appearance, but also at reducing weight and improving overall performance. The use of CFRP for the roof, in particular, helps lower the car’s centre of gravity, which can benefit handling and agility.

Interior Enhancements and Driver Focus

Inside, the Mark X GRMN receives a number of upgrades designed to create a more engaging and premium-feeling cabin. The car is fitted with sports seats that offer additional support during dynamic driving. The steering wheel is GR-branded, reinforcing the car’s performance credentials. Other cabin details include carbon-fibre trim, ultra suede upholstery, piano black accents, and red contrast stitching. These touches help to differentiate the GRMN from standard Mark X models, while maintaining the practical and traditional saloon layout that buyers expect.

Production, Pricing and Exclusivity

Toyota has set the starting price for the Mark X GRMN at 5.4 million yen, which was approximately €36,700 at the time of launch. With only 100 units being produced, the car is positioned as a collector-focused model, appealing to buyers who value traditional rear-drive dynamics and the rarity of a manual gearbox in a modern V6 saloon. The Mark X GRMN is available exclusively in Japan and will not be exported through official channels, making it a highly sought-after model for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Mark X GRMN in Context: The End of an Era

The Mark X GRMN represents the culmination of the Mark X lineage, which has long been popular in Japan for its combination of comfort, rear-wheel-drive dynamics, and understated styling. By offering a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated V6 engine in its final edition, Toyota acknowledges the desires of driving enthusiasts at a time when such configurations are becoming increasingly rare. The GRMN’s exclusivity and performance focus ensure its place as a memorable finale for the Mark X nameplate.
