Helmut Marko has dismissed persistent rumours that Sebastian Vettel could leave Red Bull for Ferrari in 2014, insisting the reigning world champion’s contract for next season is watertight. The Red Bull advisor told Sport Bild that Vettel’s deal contains no options or exit clauses, directly contradicting speculation in the Formula One paddock and recent reports from Germany.
Speculation about Vettel’s future intensified after suggestions in the German press that his Red Bull contract, though valid for 2014, might include ‘get out’ clauses. These reports fuelled talk of a possible move to Ferrari, with some in the paddock convinced that an agreement had been reached for the German to join the Scuderia.
Marko rejected these claims outright, stating there were no options or opt-outs in Vettel’s contract. “I have to disappoint Ferrari and all the others. Sebastian has a bullet-proof contract with us through 2014. There are and there have never been any options or opt-outs,” he said. This assertion was intended to put an end to the speculation and reassure both Red Bull and its partners that Vettel would remain with the team for the coming season.
