BMW M5 appears early in official videos with M Performance Parts
BMW has released official videos revealing the new M5, including a track session with M Performance Parts, weeks ahead of its commercial launch in February 2018.
BMW has published official videos of the new M5, giving a full look at the sixth-generation super saloon ahead of its commercial launch in February 2018. The videos, released before the car's public debut at the BMW M Festival in South Africa, show the M5 in action on track and highlight the available M Performance Parts package.
The M5, internally known as the F90, features a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Early specifications indicate an output close to 600hp, with BMW quoting a 0-100km/h time of just 3.4 seconds. The car comes as standard with the xDrive all-wheel drive system, a first for the M5, aimed at improving traction and acceleration while still offering a rear-drive mode for purists.
M Performance Parts: cosmetic and dynamic upgrades
The launch videos focus on a version of the M5 equipped with M Performance Parts. These include carbon fibre kidney grilles with the M5 logo, carbon mirror caps, side skirts, and additional carbon trim on the lower front air intakes. M-coloured stripes and badging complete the exterior changes. Inside, the car receives a new carbon fibre M Performance steering wheel with Alcantara bolsters and carbon paddle shifters, alongside a carbon shift lever.

A manually adjustable coilover suspension is available as part of the M Performance range, allowing owners to set the car up for road or track use. The coilover springs are painted red for visual distinction. The M Performance exhaust system enhances the V8’s sound, giving it a more aggressive note compared to the standard car.
Early look before official debut
BMW’s decision to release these videos ahead of the official launch gives buyers and enthusiasts an early look at the M5’s capabilities and the personalisation options available through the M Performance Parts catalogue. The car will be officially unveiled at the BMW M Festival at Kyalami circuit in October, but the videos already show the M5 on track and in detail.
