Volkswagen Passat CC visualised in new renderings
Digital renderings preview the next-generation Volkswagen Passat CC, hinting at a sleeker design influenced by the Seat IBL Concept and the latest Passat platform.
Renderings of the next-generation Volkswagen Passat CC have surfaced, offering an early look at how the four-door coupe could evolve when it arrives after the latest Passat. Created by Theophilus Chin, the images take clear inspiration from the Seat IBL Concept and the recently unveiled 2015 Passat, blending sharper lines with a coupe-style roofline.
The current Passat CC, which sits above the standard Passat in Volkswagen’s range, is due for a redesign following the launch of the new Passat. The renderings suggest a more dynamic look, with a lower roof, frameless doors and a pronounced shoulder line, moving the CC further from its saloon sibling and closer to premium rivals such as the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Styling and platform details
The images show a front end closely related to the 2015 Passat, including slim headlights and a wide grille, but with a more aggressive stance. The rear adopts a fastback profile, with a subtle boot lip and wraparound tail lights that echo Volkswagen’s current design language. The use of the Seat IBL Concept as a reference point is most evident in the car’s proportions and glasshouse.
The next Passat CC is expected to use Volkswagen’s MQB platform, already underpinning the new Passat. The standard Passat’s dimensions, 4,767 mm in length, 1,832 mm in width and 1,456 mm in height, are likely to provide the starting point for the CC. The regular Passat now features a wheelbase of 2,791 mm, stretched by 79 mm over its predecessor, which should benefit interior space even in the sleeker CC variant.
Market position and competition
Volkswagen positions the Passat CC as a more stylish alternative to the traditional saloon, targeting buyers who want the practicality of four doors with a sportier appearance. The move to the MQB platform should allow for a range of powertrains, including the latest petrol and diesel engines, and potentially hybrid options in line with Volkswagen’s broader strategy.
