Lexus is preparing to introduce the third generation of its IS saloon, with the model expected to make its official debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The confirmation comes via Lexus Australia marketing manager Peter Evans, who indicated in an interview that the new IS is likely to appear early next year at the major US event.
The current IS, on sale since 2005, has become one of the mainstays of the Lexus range, competing in the premium compact saloon segment against established German rivals. The model is assembled in Japan and is available as both a four-door saloon and a two-door convertible. Over its lifecycle, Lexus has offered five engines and three transmission options for the IS, including both petrol and diesel variants, depending on market.
According to the information available, the third-generation IS will use the same body structure as the outgoing model.
