BMW X4 to be unveiled on March 14 at Geneva Motor Show – Exclusive image

The all new BMW X4 compact luxury SUV will be unveiled on March 14, the German carmaker confirmed for Inautonews on Wednesday.

“The all new BMW X4 will be presented during the first half of 2014. More details to be communicated in March 14.” Mr. Christophe Koenig said.

The automaker didn’t provided any other information regarding the event, but considering that the 84th Geneva International Motor Show will open the gates in March, it’s more than clear where the X4 will be unveiled.

Based on the X3 architecture, the upcoming X4 will mirror the X6 model but on a smaller scale. All the engines will come from the X3 model – so expect a 4-cylinder 2.0 liter TwinPower Turbo with 240 bhp (179 kW) and at least one 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo generating 300 bhp (224 kW). Both rear wheel-drive and xDrive X4 variants will be available.

In Europe we expect to get an entry-level turbo four with 182 hp. It will have the same dimensions as the X3 model in terms of length (183 inches – 4,648 mm) and wheelbase, but the X3 will sit 53mm lower and will be a little bit wider 34mm.

Even if the car was spied many times around the world , we never had the chance to see its interior but for the moment we do know that the boot space will be around 500 liters; 50 liters less compared to the X3.

No words about an M version of the X4 model yet, but for the moment we doubt that the Germans would push the new X4 that far, considering that they never built an X3 M Model.

X4 will compete with the upcoming Q5 coupe, Porsche Cajun, Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz GLK.
