Mitsubishi will be officially pulling the wraps off the 2016 Outlander at the upcoming 2015 New York Auto Show.
Following a teaser released by the carmaker with an SUV aimed towards the 2015 New York Auto Show, inautonews.com has managed to find out that the model in question will actually be the 2016 Outlander. If you are expecting a new generation, you will be disappointed because this will only be a facelift but, according to a company representative, you should expect more than the usual tweaks made to the front fascia and the rear end.
“Yes, we’ll be making the world premiere for the 2016 Outlander”, said the Mitsubishi official when asked about the vehicle’s debut at the New York Auto Show. “Though this vehicle will be debuting Mitsubishi’s new design language, it’s more than just a facelift, rather has countless engineering improvements to improve the overall refinement and drive quality.”
Mitsubishi will need all the help it can get with this “more than a facelift” vehicle considering the fact that the third generation of the model has turned out to be less popular than its predecessor. The model has been in production since 2012 and it is being assembled in Japan and in Russia, riding on the GS platform and using the 2.0L I4, the 2.4L I4, the 2.2L TD and the 3.0L V6 in the U.S. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and a CVT. Details on the facelifted version will be announced on the 2nd of April, in New York.
