Police Accident: biker hurt in unmarked police car crash image

An unmarked police car was making a U-turn on Centre Road, near Magnolia Avenue in Bentleigh East, when it crashed into the motorcyclist just after 9:00am (AEST).

Police said the unmarked car, driven by a male Kingston Highway Patrol officer, was travelling west on Centre Rd, Bentleigh East about 9.15am when the officer spotted a motorist talking on a mobile phone.
The accident happened when the police officer did a U-turn in a bid to catch a driver on a mobile phone.
The motorcyclist then crashed into the driver’s side of the police car.
The motorcyclist, a 22-year-old Clayton South man, was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Detective-Sen-Sgt Shane Rix, from Moorabbin Divisional Response Unit, said investigators were trying to determine who was at fault.

“At this stage we have no witnesses and we urge anyone who witnessed the incident to call Crime Stoppers,’’ he said.

He said the Constable was an experienced officer.
