The next step up from the Cayman S is known as the Cayman S Black Edition: Starting in July 2011, Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is bringing the mid-engine coupé to market in a special edition limited to 500 units boasting even better performance and especially lavish equipment specification.
Acceleration from 0-62 mph is improved by a tenth of a second to 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission, and to 5.0 seconds with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual clutch unit. Other costly extras like carbon-ceramic brakes and an adaptive suspension also are on the menu.
As its name suggests, the Cayman S Black Edition is only available in black. It also incorporates a number of unique black interior features and a higher level of standard equipment, including Porsche’s Sound Package Plus, than the Cayman S.
Like the Boxster Black Edition, the darkened Cayman actually represents a savings of several thousand dollars compared to a similarly spec’ed S. For $68,450, the Black Cayman includes navigation, xenon headlights, an upgraded Bose stereo system, and other assorted goodies.
The 2012 Cayman S Black Edition MSRP is $67,500
