The German based automaker Volkswagen has recently announced its plans to develop a low-cost car which should hit the market in 2015.
Dacia is currently the European leader in budget car sales and with the new Logan generation starting at just over 6, 000 euros, or with the new Sandero being priced close to that amount, Volkswagen wants a piece of the pie in this segment too. The car manufacturer has announced its plans to develop a new super-budget car, which should be launched over the next couple of years.
“We are developing a budget car for the price range between €6000 and €7000 (Rs 4.3 and 5.1 lakh). Some three million cars are sold in this segment each year in China alone”, said Martin Winterkorn, the VW boss, in a German magazine.
Rumors are saying that the new budget car to be made by Volkswagen will become available at first in China and, depending on how well the model will be sold, it’s expected to make its way onto the Old Continent too. Additional details on Volkswagen’s low-cost car are limited for the moment and will be announced over the following years, close to its debut. The cheapest VW car in the present is the Up!, which starts at just over 10,000 euros.
