2009 Jaguar XJ Gains Extra Kit Without Price Hike
Jaguar has updated the 2009 XJ saloon with more standard features across the range, keeping prices unchanged for UK buyers despite the added equipment.
Jaguar has revised the UK specification of its 2009 XJ saloon, adding more standard equipment to each trim level while holding prices steady. The move is aimed at strengthening the XJ’s value proposition in the large luxury saloon segment, as rivals also update their offerings.
Enhanced equipment for Executive and Sovereign
The XJ Executive 2.7-litre diesel, priced at £44,599, now comes with satellite navigation, front and rear parking aids, Bi-xenon headlamps with washers, a bright mesh lower grille and side vents, and Jaguar-branded tread plates as standard. These features were previously optional or reserved for higher trims, broadening the Executive’s appeal for buyers seeking more technology and convenience without stretching their budget.
Moving up, the XJ Sovereign 2.7-litre diesel is listed at £50,472 and now includes 20-inch Takoba alloy wheels, heated and cooled soft grain leather seats with embossed headrests, a leatherette instrument panel and grab handles, and a full lambswool rug set. The Sovereign also gains DAB digital radio, metallic paint, power-folding mirrors, heated rear seats, a premium sound system with a six-CD changer, and Jaguar Voice control. This specification builds on the Executive’s kit, targeting buyers who want a more luxurious interior and greater comfort features as standard.
Super V8 tops the range
At the top of the line-up, the XJ Super V8 retains its 4.2-litre supercharged petrol engine and a high level of standard luxury equipment, including chrome side vents and Rich Oak veneer trim. The price remains unchanged at £57,760. The Super V8 continues to serve as Jaguar’s flagship saloon, offering the most powerful engine in the XJ range and a specification aimed at buyers seeking maximum performance and refinement.
Interior and comfort improvements
Jaguar has also made improvements to the XJ’s interior across the range. All models benefit from redesigned front seat backs, which increase rear leg and foot room for passengers. Heated front seats are now standard, and air-cooling is included as standard on Sovereign models. The changes are intended to boost comfort, particularly for rear-seat passengers, and to keep the XJ competitive in a segment where rear passenger space is often a deciding factor.
Diesel XJ recognised for efficiency
The XJ 2.7-litre diesel was awarded Britain’s Greenest Luxury Car for the second consecutive year in the Environmental Transport Association’s 2008 Car Buyers Guide. This recognition reflects Jaguar’s focus on reducing CO2 emissions and improving fuel consumption, helped by the XJ’s lightweight aluminium construction and the efficiency of its diesel engine.
