Chrysler UK launched its 2010 300C range with four distinct versions, offering both diesel and petrol V8 powertrains to meet demand for luxury, equipment and outright performance. The line-up comprises the SE, SR, SRT and SRT-8, with pricing starting at £23,995 for the entry-level SE diesel and topping out at £41,795 for the flagship SRT-8.

Diesel and V8: Engine choices define the range

The 300C SE, SR and SRT all use Chrysler’s 3.0-litre V6 common-rail diesel engine, delivering 215 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 376 lb ft of torque from 1,600 rpm. All three are fitted with a five-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel models reach 62.5 mph in 8.7 seconds and have a top speed of 143 mph, figures that put the 300C in line with rivals in the executive saloon segment.

The SRT-8 sits apart with its 6.1-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine, producing 425 bhp and 420 lb ft. Chrysler quotes 0-62.5 mph in 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph, targeting drivers after American muscle with luxury saloon comfort. The SRT-8’s standing quarter-mile is in the high 13-second range, and 0-100-0 mph is dispatched in the mid-16 seconds.

Trim levels and equipment changes

Standard kit on the SE includes leather seats, ESP, ABS, multiple airbags, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, LED ambient lighting, front fog lamps, and parking sensors. Exterior features include Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and 18-inch aluminium wheels. The entertainment system brings AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 capability and a six-speaker Boston Acoustics system.

  • SR (£24,995): Adds auto-dimming mirror, upgraded Boston Acoustics with subwoofer, Uconnect GPS sat nav, Bluetooth hands-free system. Options: power sunroof (£750), heated rear seats (£250).
  • SRT (£27,995): Gains mesh grille, body-coloured mirrors and handles, wheel arch extensions, 20-inch wheels, leather and suede sports seats, carbon fibre interior trim.
  • SRT-8 (£41,795): 6.1 V8, Brembo brakes, power sunroof, performance-tuned steering and suspension.

Positioning and market context

Chrysler’s 300C range enters a competitive segment, offering diesel efficiency for fleet and private buyers as well as a high-performance SRT-8 for enthusiasts. The SRT-8’s price undercuts many German rivals with similar performance, while the diesel models target buyers seeking American style with European running costs.

Chrysler’s approach with the 2010 300C line-up reflects the brand’s strategy to maintain a foothold in the UK executive saloon market by offering high equipment levels, distinctive styling and a choice between muscular petrol and efficient diesel powertrains. The SRT-8’s performance credentials and price point make it a rare proposition for buyers seeking something different from the mainstream German offerings.
