Audi unveils 2013 A6 Allroad with lighter body and new engines
Audi has revealed the 2013 A6 Allroad, featuring aluminium-intensive construction, a range of turbocharged engines and the latest quattro system, with European sales to begin in spring 2012.
Audi has pulled the wraps off the 2013 A6 Allroad, expanding its estate line-up with a car that combines the latest A6 Avant platform with additional ground clearance, body protection and a choice of four turbocharged engines. The new model is set for European sale from spring 2012, with pricing in Germany for the entry-level diesel starting at €54,600.
The A6 Allroad sits 4.94 metres long, 1.90 metres wide and 1.47 metres tall, making it slightly larger than the standard A6 Avant. Audi’s ultra-lightweight construction techniques are prominent, with aluminium accounting for around 20 percent of the body. This helps reduce the car’s weight by as much as 70kg compared with its predecessor, according to Audi.
Standard specification includes stainless steel underbody protection at both ends and 18-inch five-arm alloy wheels. The exhaust system is finished with two large, flattened tailpipes, further distinguishing the Allroad from the regular Avant.
Engine range and performance
European buyers will have four engine choices: a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol and three variants of the 3.0-litre TDI diesel. The 3.0 TFSI petrol, fitted with a supercharger, produces 310 hp and 440 Nm of torque, taking the A6 Allroad from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The three diesels offer 204 hp, 245 hp and a range-topping 313 hp BiTurbo version, with torque figures up to 650 Nm. The most efficient 3.0 TDI returns a claimed 6.1 litres per 100 km and 159 g/km of CO2.

Transmission options include an eight-speed automatic or a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic, depending on engine. Quattro all-wheel drive and torque vectoring are standard across the range.
Position in the market and US prospects
Audi’s Allroad models have historically targeted buyers seeking estate practicality with extra versatility for poor weather or rougher roads. The A6 Allroad sits above the A4 Allroad, which was shown at the Detroit motor show earlier in the same week. While the A4 Allroad has since been offered in the US market, Audi has not confirmed US availability for the A6 Allroad. Previous reports have suggested it is unlikely to reach North America, but the company has not ruled it out entirely.
The new A6 Allroad will compete in Europe against models such as the Volvo XC70 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain. UK pricing starts from £43,145 for the 204 hp diesel, positioning it as a premium alternative to conventional estates and crossovers.
