General Motors has published performance specifications for the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, confirming outputs and gearbox options for its new mid-size pickups ahead of their North American launch. Engine options and performance figures
The base engine for both the Colorado and Canyon is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft (258 Nm) of torque. This engine is aimed at buyers seeking a practical, fuel-efficient pickup for lighter-duty work or everyday use. For customers needing more power or towing capacity, GM offers a 3.6-litre V6 rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft (364 Nm) of torque. Both engines are naturally aspirated petrol units and are shared across the two brands.
The V6 engine places the Colorado and Canyon among the most powerful trucks in the US mid-size segment for the 2015 model year. The four-cylinder’s output also compares favourably with rivals, though final fuel economy figures were not released at the time of the announcement.
Transmission and drivetrain options
Both engines can be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, which GM says has been revised for these applications. A six-speed manual gearbox is also available, but only on select extended cab, rear-wheel-drive models equipped with the four-cylinder engine. This manual option is likely to appeal to fleet buyers and those preferring a more basic specification.
Both trucks are built on a shared chassis and offer similar equipment levels, with differences mainly in styling and brand positioning.
