Mercedes-AMG used the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show to give the new C63 Coupe its first public outing, confirming both standard and S versions will reach showrooms in 2016. The new model stands apart from the regular C-Class Coupe with a widened track, more aggressive styling and a heavily reworked chassis aimed at sharper handling.

Both versions of the C63 Coupe use AMG’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, already seen in the C63 saloon. The standard C63 Coupe produces 476 PS and 650 Nm, while the C63 S Coupe is tuned to 510 PS and 700 Nm. Official figures put 0-100 km/h at 4.0 seconds for the C63 and 3.9 seconds for the C63 S, with both limited to 250 km/h unless buyers opt for the AMG Driver’s Package, which raises the top speed to 290 km/h.

Chassis and styling changes

The C63 Coupe gets a wider front and rear track than the standard C-Class Coupe, along with bespoke suspension and a new rear axle carrier. AMG has fitted stiffer elastokinematic mounts, increased negative camber and a limited-slip rear differential. The AMG RIDE CONTROL system offers adjustable damping, while dynamic engine mounts aim to improve response under load.

Externally, the car is marked out by an aggressive front bumper, a reshaped grille, a power-domed bonnet, and a bootlid spoiler. Large alloy wheels reveal substantial high-performance brakes, and quad exhaust outlets complete the rear. Inside, the cabin features ARTICO/DINAMICA sports seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, AMG badges and carbon-fibre trim.

Market position and rivals

With these changes, Mercedes-AMG is targeting the BMW M4 and Audi RS5. The C63 Coupe’s V8 offers a different character to the six-cylinder engines in its main German rivals, and the new chassis setup is intended to deliver both sharper dynamics and improved everyday comfort. Pricing and full UK specifications are due closer to launch.
