Mazda has confirmed US pricing for the 2015 MX-5 and the special MX-5 25th Anniversary edition. The standard roadster is now available to order from $24,765, which includes the $795 destination charge. The 25th Anniversary model, limited to just 100 units for the US market, is priced from $33,000 including destination.

The 25th Anniversary MX-5 marks a quarter-century since the original car’s launch, offering a distinct specification to commemorate the occasion. Mazda will allocate just 100 examples of this special edition to US buyers, with pre-orders open until 31 May 2014. Interested customers must register online to secure a place in the queue, as demand is expected to outstrip supply.

What sets the 25th Anniversary MX-5 apart?

The Anniversary model features several unique design elements. These include black A-pillars, 17-inch gunmetal-finish aluminium wheels, and a special metallic red paint exclusive to the edition. The interior gains coloured leather trim and satin-finish dashboard accents, while a power retractable hard top is fitted as standard. These details distinguish the Anniversary MX-5 from the regular production car, which continues largely unchanged for 2015.

Ordering and availability

Mazda’s dedicated website for the Anniversary edition opened on 20 May 2014 at 7:25 AM Eastern time. Given the limited allocation, the pre-order process is expected to close quickly. Customers who successfully register will be contacted to finalise their purchase. The standard MX-5 remains available through Mazda dealerships without such restrictions.

Position in the US sports car market

The MX-5 remains one of the most affordable rear-wheel-drive sports cars on sale in the US. The 25th Anniversary edition’s $33,000 price reflects its exclusivity and added features, positioning it above the standard car but still below many rivals in the segment. Mazda’s approach follows a pattern seen with other limited-run sports cars, such as Chevrolet’s 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible and 60th Anniversary Package, which also targeted collectors and enthusiasts with a premium specification and restricted production.

Production numbers for the standard 2015 MX-5 are not restricted, and the model continues to offer an accessible entry point for buyers seeking a lightweight, rear-drive roadster. The Anniversary edition, by contrast, is aimed at collectors and long-time fans of the MX-5 lineage.

Mazda has not announced any changes to the MX-5’s mechanical specification for 2015. The Anniversary model’s appeal lies in its cosmetic upgrades and exclusivity rather than performance enhancements. With the next-generation MX-5 already anticipated by enthusiasts, the 25th Anniversary edition serves as a send-off for the outgoing model in the US market.
