Infiniti Q60 Concept debuts at Detroit with twin-turbo V6
Infiniti unveiled the Q60 Concept at the 2015 Detroit show, previewing a future production coupe with bold styling and a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine.
Infiniti pulled the covers off its Q60 Concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, previewing a two-door coupe aimed at rivals like the BMW 4 Series. The show car signals Infiniti’s intention to move further into the premium coupe segment with a bold new design direction and a fresh powertrain.
The Q60 Concept stretches 4,690mm in length and 1,865mm in width, with a low 1,370mm roofline. Its exterior blends sharp creases with a prominent front grille, slim headlights and muscular rear haunches. The design draws inspiration from earlier Infiniti concepts, including the Q50 Eau Rouge and Q80 Inspiration, with an emphasis on athletic proportions and a fastback silhouette.
Inside, the concept features hand-stitched leather on the steering wheel, a black-and-white leather-wrapped instrument panel and door inserts, and a mix of leathers on the seats. The rear gets individual bucket seats, reinforcing the coupe’s sporting intent. Infiniti said the use of premium materials and craftsmanship points towards the brand’s ambitions for the production model.
New twin-turbo V6 engine
Under the bonnet sits a newly developed 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6, featuring direct injection. Infiniti did not release performance or output figures at the show, but the engine’s debut in the Q60 Concept suggests it will power the next-generation production coupe. The company highlighted the engine’s efficiency and performance focus, but further technical details are expected closer to the launch of the production car.
Production outlook
Infiniti did not confirm a production date for the Q60 at Detroit, but indications at the time suggested a market launch was likely in 2017.
