Honda launches 2016 Odyssey Special Edition for US market
The 2016 Honda Odyssey Special Edition arrives in American showrooms, sitting between EX and EX-L trims and adding family-focused equipment at a $33,375 starting price.
Honda has introduced a Special Edition of its Odyssey minivan for the 2016 model year, targeting US buyers with additional family-friendly features and a starting price of $33,375. The new trim level is available from 4 August 2015 and sits between the existing EX and EX-L specifications.
Honda positions the Odyssey Special Edition as a value-focused package, bundling equipment that previously required moving up the range or adding options. Standard kit includes a rear-seat entertainment system, SiriusXM satellite radio and a 115-volt power outlet. The HondaVAC in-boot vacuum cleaner, previously exclusive to higher trims, is also included.
Equipment and specification
The Special Edition retains the Odyssey’s 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, producing 248 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Official US fuel economy figures are 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. The new trim does not introduce mechanical changes but focuses on convenience and in-cabin technology.
- Rear-seat entertainment system
- SiriusXM satellite radio
- 115V power outlet
- HondaVAC in-boot vacuum cleaner
With a $33,375 starting price, the Odyssey Special Edition fills the gap for buyers seeking more features than the EX without stepping up to the EX-L. Honda has responded to customer feedback by packaging popular options in a single model, aiming to appeal to families prioritising in-car entertainment and practicality.
Market context and availability
The Odyssey remains a key model for Honda in the US minivan segment, competing with rivals such as the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Town & Country. The Special Edition’s launch follows similar strategies by other manufacturers, offering value-added editions to maintain showroom interest as models approach the end of their lifecycle.
