Opel Unveils 2016 Astra Sports Tourer with More Space and Efficiency
Opel has revealed the 2016 Astra Sports Tourer, delivering increased rear legroom, lighter construction, and a choice of petrol and diesel engines for buyers seeking practicality.
Opel has introduced the 2016 Astra Sports Tourer, expanding its compact range with a practical estate that promises more space for passengers and luggage. The new model, based on the Astra K platform, arrives as a direct response to demand for versatile family cars in Europe.
Opel’s estate version follows the debut of the five-door hatch at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Sports Tourer inherits the hatchback’s lighter architecture, which helps improve efficiency and handling. Despite being 5cm shorter and riding on a 2cm shorter wheelbase than its predecessor, the new Sports Tourer offers 35mm more rear legroom, making it a stronger proposition for families and business users needing extra space.
Engine range and technical highlights
The 2016 Astra Sports Tourer is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecotec petrol produces 105hp, while the 1.4-litre Ecotec turbo delivers 145hp and 250Nm of torque. Diesel buyers can opt for the 1.6-litre CDTI, starting at 95hp. Each engine is designed for efficiency and lower running costs, in line with the needs of the segment.
