Subaru has unveiled the 2016 Crosstrek for the US, introducing a facelift that brings new styling, additional safety technology and interior upgrades. The updated model is scheduled to reach American showrooms in autumn, with pricing from $21,595.

The most visible changes appear at the front, where Subaru has revised the grille and bumper, and fitted updated headlights. All versions receive new 17-inch alloy wheels. The changes bring the Crosstrek closer in line with the rest of Subaru’s crossover range.

Subaru is offering new safety features on higher trims. Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now available on the Limited and Hybrid Touring models. These additions follow a trend across the Subaru range, which has seen safety technology filter down from larger models such as the Outback and Legacy.

Interior and infotainment upgrades

Inside, the 2016 Crosstrek gains Subaru’s STARLINK infotainment system on a 6.2-inch touchscreen as standard. The system supports AM/FM/HD radio, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, a CD player and a rearview camera. Higher trims add LED accent lighting, a new steering wheel, orange contrast stitching, and gloss black or silver dash trim depending on the version.

Engine and pricing details

The 2016 Crosstrek continues with Subaru’s 2.0-litre Boxer four-cylinder petrol engine. Output is rated at 148hp for most models, with the Hybrid Touring offering a combined 160hp. All-wheel drive remains standard across the range. US pricing starts at $21,595, matching the entry price of the outgoing model.

The facelifted Crosstrek will reach US dealerships in autumn 2015. Subaru expects the updates to help maintain its strong position in the compact crossover segment, where competition from the likes of the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V has intensified over the past year.
