Mopar marked its 80th anniversary at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show by unveiling a limited-edition Dodge Challenger, with production capped at 160 units. Each car features hand-applied two-tone paintwork and a 6.4-litre V8 under the bonnet.

The Mopar 2017 Dodge Challenger stands out with its hand-painted two-tone livery. Buyers can choose between Pitch Black with Contusion Blue or Pitch Black with Billet Silver. The paint transition runs along the belt line, and each car receives a hand-painted Mopar 392 logo on the driver’s front wing. Only 80 examples of each colour combination will be built, making this one of the rarest modern Challengers.

Mopar’s team has fitted the car with a Shaker hood scoop in Pitch Black, SRT Hellcat-derived black exhaust tips, and 20-inch wheels with semi-gloss accents. Inside, the special edition receives performance seats with Tungsten-coloured stitching and further Mopar branding.

Performance and specification

Under the bonnet sits Dodge’s 6.4-litre HEMI V8, delivering 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a choice of manual or automatic transmission, though Mopar has not specified the exact gearbox options for this edition. The car’s mechanical specification is based on the Challenger R/T Scat Pack, but with Mopar’s visual and trim upgrades.

Mopar’s anniversary and limited-run strategy

Since 2010, Mopar has produced a limited-edition model each year, typically in small numbers and with unique finishes or features. The 2017 Challenger edition aligns with this approach, but the hand-painted finish and the 80-unit split per colour mark a nod to the brand’s 80th year in operation. Buyers receive a numbered plaque and certificate of authenticity with each car.
