Volkswagen Marks 70 Years of Bulli with Multivan Special at Geneva
Volkswagen unveils the Multivan 70 Years of the Bulli at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, celebrating the iconic Transporter's anniversary with retro-inspired styling and modern features.
Volkswagen used the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to reveal the Multivan 70 Years of the Bulli, a special edition commemorating seven decades since the original Transporter concept. The limited-run model pays tribute to the classic van’s heritage while updating it with contemporary equipment and styling.
The special edition is based on the latest Transporter in Comfortline trim and stands out with its Candy White and Metallic Kurkuma Yellow two-tone paintwork. Chrome mirror housings and unique anniversary badging on the rear window distinguish it from standard models. Volkswagen also offers 18-inch Disc classic wheels as an option, with 17-inch Davenport alloys fitted as standard.
Inside, the Multivan 70 Years of the Bulli features tinted windows, stainless steel trim, and Bulli-branded detailing. The seats are upholstered in Visitamo half-leather, and the floor is finished in colour-matched Dark Wood. These touches are designed to evoke the spirit of the original while meeting modern expectations for comfort and quality.
A nod to Ben Pon’s original sketch
Volkswagen’s homage traces its roots to 1947, when Dutch importer Ben Pon sketched a van inspired by a factory runabout at Wolfsburg. That drawing led to the first Bulli, a vehicle that would become a symbol of practicality and counterculture. The 70 Years edition at Geneva is both a celebration of that legacy and a statement of intent as Volkswagen moves towards electric mobility.
While Volkswagen is developing its electric future, the Multivan 70 Years of the Bulli appeals to buyers who value heritage and individuality in a family or business van. The Geneva show stand made clear that nostalgia remains a strong selling point, even as the brand prepares for its next chapter.
