Alpina presented its B6 xDrive Gran Coupe to the public for the first time at the 2015 New York Auto Show, marking both the model’s North American debut and the company’s 50th anniversary. The new four-door coupe brings a combination of increased power, all-wheel drive and revised styling to the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe platform.

Powertrain and performance

The B6 xDrive Gran Coupe uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, tuned by Alpina to deliver 600hp and 799Nm of torque. Compared to the previous B6, this represents an increase of 60hp and 67Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Alpina claims 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 321km/h, making this one of the fastest four-door models in Alpina’s history.

Styling and equipment updates

For its New York debut, the B6 xDrive Gran Coupe features a revised front end with a new spoiler, grille and bonnet. Standard equipment includes BMW’s LED Adaptive Headlights with High Beam Assist and blue Alpina-branded brake calipers. These changes distinguish the B6 from the standard BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and reinforce its positioning as a high-performance, luxury alternative.

Market and context

The B6 xDrive Gran Coupe’s New York launch brings Alpina’s flagship four-door to US buyers with all-wheel drive for the first time. The model sits above the standard 6 Series Gran Coupe in both performance and price, targeting buyers seeking exclusivity and higher output than BMW’s own M6 Gran Coupe. Its unveiling alongside a 1970 BMW 2002ti Alpina underlines the brand’s heritage and ongoing partnership with BMW.
