MTM pushes Audi RS6 to 730hp and 310km/h
German tuner MTM has extracted 730hp from the Audi RS6, lifting its top speed to 310km/h and placing the estate firmly in supercar territory.
MTM has taken the Audi RS6 and delivered a tuning package that pushes the estate’s 5.0-litre V10 twin-turbo engine to 730hp, according to the German specialist’s figures released in 2009. The result is a claimed top speed of 310km/h, well beyond the standard car’s electronically limited 250km/h.
The RS6’s standard 5.0-litre V10 already delivered 580hp, but MTM’s modifications included revised engine mapping and upgraded turbocharger parameters to unlock an extra 150hp. The company is known for extracting supercar-level performance from Audi’s high-performance models, and this RS6 was no exception.
Performance figures put the MTM RS6 in the territory of far more exotic machinery. The quoted 310km/h top speed is on par with some supercars of the era, while the estate body offers everyday practicality. MTM did not publish official acceleration times, but the standard RS6 could reach 100km/h in under 4.6 seconds, so the tuned version would be expected to improve on that.
Supercar pace for a practical estate
The RS6’s transformation by MTM was part of a trend among German tuners to take already potent factory models and push them into new performance territory. For buyers, the appeal was a car that could carry a family and luggage at speeds that would trouble dedicated sports cars. The package was aimed at enthusiasts who wanted more than the factory’s already generous output, and who valued the Audi’s understated looks.
