A digital artist has produced a rendering of a BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Shooting Brake in M Sport trim, offering an early look at how a five-door estate version of BMW’s four-door coupe might appear. The image, created by the user lightrace on Flickr, arrives ahead of any official word from BMW on a production Shooting Brake variant.
The rendered Shooting Brake takes the Gran Coupe’s elongated profile and adapts it into a more practical estate body, with a sweeping roofline and extended rear. The M Sport package is evident in the aggressive front bumper, larger wheels and side skirts, consistent with BMW’s styling for its performance-oriented models.
BMW has not announced any plans to produce a 6 Series Shooting Brake. The Gran Coupe itself, set for launch in 2012 as a 2013 model, is positioned as a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz CLS. It shares its wheelbase with the F10 5 Series, but is shorter, wider and lower than both the 5 Series saloon and the 6 Series Convertible. The Gran Coupe is expected to use the same engine range as the 6 Series Coupe, with petrol and diesel options and a possible M performance version in development.
Shooting Brake: digital trend, not production reality
The Shooting Brake format, essentially an estate with coupe-like styling, has gained popularity in digital renderings but rarely translates into production for luxury grand tourers. While BMW offers Touring variants in the 3 and 5 Series, the 6 Series has remained a coupe, convertible or four-door Gran Coupe.
