Chrysler Recalls 667 V6-Powered Models Over Engine Debris Risk

Chrysler Group LLC will recall 667 vehicles fitted with its 3.6-litre V6 engine after internal checks found machining debris could lead to engine power loss. The recall covers selected 2011 and 2012 models from Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep, including the Chrysler 200, Town & Country, Dodge Journey, Durango, Grand Caravan, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The company said the defect was discovered during a scheduled audit at the plant, allowing it to act before most affected vehicles reached buyers. Of the 667 vehicles identified, 657 had reached dealers, with the majority still unsold when the issue was found. Chrysler confirmed that no failures, injuries or property damage had been reported in the field.
The fault stems from debris left in the engine during the machining process. Chrysler stated that this could cause a loss of engine power if the debris interferes with engine operation. As a remedy, the company will replace the entire engine in affected vehicles, free of charge to both customers and dealers.

Chrysler will notify owners of the affected vehicles directly. Customers will be asked to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection and, if necessary, engine replacement. Since most vehicles had not yet been sold when the recall was initiated, the disruption for existing owners is expected to be limited. The company emphasised that the recall was precautionary, with no reported incidents in customer hands.
The recall is scheduled to begin in October 2011, with notifications sent to registered owners. Dealers will handle engine replacements, and Chrysler will cover all associated costs.
