Citroën has confirmed it will present the Cactus M concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, reviving the spirit of the original Méhari with a modern twist based on the C4 Cactus platform. The concept draws on the lightweight, plastic-bodied design of the 1968 Méhari, aiming to capture its open-air, leisure-focused character.

The Cactus M concept features styling and construction reminiscent of the classic Méhari, including a plastic body and a likely canvas roof. Citroën has not released full technical specifications ahead of the show, but the company has emphasised that the car is intended to revisit the free-spirited, practical ethos of its predecessor. The original Méhari was known for its removable roof and doors, as well as its suitability for both on- and off-road use.

Citroën's Frankfurt line-up

The Cactus M will share the Frankfurt stand with the Aircross Concept, which made its first appearance at Auto Shanghai earlier in 2015. Citroën will also display the production C1, C4, Berlingo Multispace, and the C5 in both saloon and estate forms. The brand is using these concepts and refreshed models to underline a shift in its design direction and brand identity.

Citroën has indicated that further details of the Cactus M and its Frankfurt line-up will be released during the motor show in mid-September 2015. The Cactus M concept follows earlier design studies such as the Cactus Concept with Hybrid Air, shown at a previous Frankfurt event.
