Dacia has released the first official images of its new Lodgy MPV, confirming the budget brand’s entry into the compact people carrier market. The Lodgy will make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, with European sales planned for later in the year.

The Lodgy is pitched directly at families who might otherwise have turned to the used market for a spacious vehicle. Dacia, part of the Renault Group, is aiming to undercut rivals such as the Ford C-Max and Volkswagen Touran on price, offering a new MPV with five or seven seats and a full three-year warranty. The company has not yet confirmed whether a right-hand drive version will be produced for the UK or Ireland.

Room for Five or Seven at 4.5 Metres

At 4.5 metres in length, the Lodgy is designed to maximise interior space while keeping exterior dimensions compact enough for urban use. Dacia claims the model will provide generous accommodation for all passengers, including those in the third row, and an “exceptionally large” boot even with all seats in place. Both five- and seven-seat versions will be offered, catering to a range of family needs.

Styling details show a clear evolution of Dacia’s design language, with a new grille and headlamp treatment compared to the existing Sandero and Logan models. Some elements, such as the door handles, are shared with other Dacia models, reflecting the brand’s emphasis on cost efficiency. The Lodgy’s van-like profile and upright stance are intended to maximise headroom and boot capacity, though the look is functional rather than stylish.

Positioned for Value-Conscious Buyers

Dacia has not released full technical specifications or pricing, but the Lodgy is expected to follow the brand’s formula of keeping costs low through proven Renault Group components and simplified equipment levels. The company is targeting buyers who would typically purchase a second-hand MPV, offering them a new vehicle alternative with warranty coverage and reliability claims based on the wider Dacia range.

The Lodgy joins a line-up that already includes the Logan saloon and estate, Sandero hatchback, and Duster SUV. Its arrival expands Dacia’s reach into the MPV segment, where affordable seven-seaters remain rare. The brand’s approach is to prioritise space, practicality and low running costs over advanced features or premium materials.

Market Launch and Right-Hand Drive Uncertainty

Dacia plans to launch the Lodgy across European markets following its Geneva debut. However, the company has not yet finalised plans for right-hand drive production, meaning UK and Irish buyers may have to wait until after the initial left-hand drive rollout, if the model is offered at all in those markets. The Lodgy’s pricing is expected to undercut established MPV rivals, reflecting Dacia’s position as a budget brand within the Renault Group.
