Ferrari has published the first official images of its F70 hypercar, confirming key details about the long-anticipated successor to the Enzo. The images, released in the company’s official magazine and corroborated by recent spy shots, reveal a low, wide stance with pronounced wheel arches, a broad grille and a Formula One-inspired central ridge on the bonnet.

The F70, which has been spotted testing near Maranello, is Ferrari’s first hybrid model and incorporates technology from the FXX and Millechili concepts. Its powertrain centres on a mid-mounted, 6.3-litre V12 engine, a development of the unit used in the F12 Berlinetta, producing 731bhp. This is paired with an electric motor expected to add around 100bhp and 200Nm of torque, using a KERS-style system derived from Ferrari’s Formula One programme. Combined output is projected to approach 900bhp, with power sent through a dual-clutch gearbox and a low-mounted transmission for improved handling.

Design and chassis details

The official images only partially reveal the F70’s form, but visible features include headlights resembling those of the 458 Italia and a rear design with similarities to the F12berlinetta. The rear features two round lights at each corner and a centrally mounted reversing light in the diffuser, echoing Formula One practice. The car sits on a new carbon-fibre monocoque, which is expected to keep weight near 1,000kg, according to speculation from sources close to the project.

Inside, the F70 continues the F1 theme, with a seat moulded to the owner’s shape, an F1-style steering wheel with all major controls, and adjustable pedals. This approach aims to create a cockpit focused on driving engagement and weight savings. The car’s hybrid system, inspired by the KERS technology used in Ferrari’s F1 cars, is a first for the marque and signals a shift towards electrification in its top-tier models.

Launch timing and price

Ferrari is expected to show the F70 to select buyers before the end of 2012, with a public debut likely at either the Detroit Auto Show in January 2013 or the Geneva Motor Show in March. The price is projected to exceed £800,000, reflecting its technology, exclusivity and position as the brand’s new flagship. Production numbers have not been confirmed, but the F70 will follow the Enzo’s tradition of being a limited-run model aimed at collectors and Ferrari’s most loyal customers.
